Cabo San Lucas Fishing Report, January 31

Once again we have fish in Cabo!! Fishing is getting better across the board. The water temps have stabilized and warmed up placing the fish where they are supposed to be and are holding long enough to get a steady feed going. Striped Marlin, Wahoo, Tuna, and Dorado. Just the way it should be.

Cabo San Lucas Fishing Report, January 24

Show up early and don't plan on making dinner!! Crazy weather causing the coldest surface temps in the last 100 yrs has sent the fleets running. The fish are out there, they are just halfway to Hawaii before you get into any water blue enough to get bit. The Striped Marlin are just stuck waiting for water temps to warm up enough for them to metabolize, for now they are just stalled out ion a suspended animation like state. As of Sunday morning the temps are creeping back up to a manageable level and we are moving past the moon phase into all around better conditions. We hope! If not we will just continue to run long , the Yellowfin tuna are holding steady 60 to 80 miles offshore and the Humpback whales never fail to impress. All together a lovely day on the water. If you are going out be specific with your captain, you do not want a boat ride around looking at green water just so they can save diesel. Be prepared to pay a little extra for the diesel and go fill some coolers!

Cabo San Lucas Fishing Report, January 17

The cool water has moved in and just about shut down the finger. The fish are still thick, just not very hungry. The bulk have moved south and are taking up residence from golden gate to the lighthouse. The difference between catching fish and getting skunked has been the satellite reports on surface temps and chlorophyll levels. Proper planning before you leave the dock is essential in times like this, pick up and run to the right spot and keep your eyes peeled for birds. The surface feeding time is about half of what it is when conditions are prime. As we move into the moon phase it will be a bit of a chore getting the Striped Marlin to eat, however by the 20th it looks like the weather will give us a break and the water temps will rise. This will leave an ocean full of hungry billfish!! The best part is they will be right out our front door here at Land's end. We will keep you posted as the bite turns on. The key to having fun right now is to spend some time inshore on light action rods seeing who can land the biggest sierra on the lightest line. Don't forget about the Dorado and Yellowfin either it is a great time to fill the cooler. Have a fish fry and tell stories about the one that got away!!

Cabo San Lucas Fishing Report, January 10

Cabo San Lucas Fishing Report, January 10

Yellowfin Tuna and Srtriped Marlin are the most common fish landed this last week. The Blue Marlin of last week proved to be the last of the year. It is time to start thinking of running far north to the finger banks and getting into some of the wide open Stripes and sails action. The surface is boiling with feeding billfish and humpback whales on all the sea mounds between Magdalena bay and finger bank. These mounds are hardly ever fished and are only passed over a couple of times a year by the long-range tuna guys out of San Diego. These mounds are like a lost world when the conditions are right. The world record was set in 2008 with one vessel in twelve hours of fishing, six anglers and three mates released 189 Striped Marlin in one day. We will keep you posted!

Cabo San Lucas Fishing Report, January 3

Cabo San Lucas Fishing Report, January 3
Absolutely random scattering of late season Blue Marlin. This seems to be one of those blue moon situations. I don't know how it got started, but word started spreading around the dock that nice size blue Marlin were popping up in the spread. All fisherman are liars, so no one really paid attention to the rumors. After a few were hooked most boats started dragging one or two extra lines with heavier rigs just in case. Sure enough four days of solid Marlin action, just like October. Fish coming in and tipping the scales up to 850lbs!! Heavy numbers of skipjacks and crazy water temps brought them back and as quick as they came they left. Bit of a head scratch-er, but made for some great fishing!! The rest is typical Cabo winter, 80f weather, striped marlin, dorado, and yellowfin tuna keeping lines tight!!
